Behind every bottle in the Friends & Family Sale is a winery with a story worth knowing. From Napa Valley icons to bold new voices from the Central Coast and beyond, here is a closer look at some of the brands you might find during our Friends & Family sale.
Beringer
Founded in 1876, Beringer is one of America's oldest continuously operating wineries. For nearly 150 years, it has been crafting wines that reflect the distinct character of Napa Valley's most celebrated vineyard sites, from Howell Mountain to Spring Mountain to the valley floor. Known for its Chardonnay and single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, Beringer combines deep-rooted tradition with a commitment to sustainable farming.
Beaulieu Vineyard
Beaulieu Vineyard has been shaping California wine history since 1900. Founded by Georges and Fernande de Latour on the Rutherford Bench, BV pioneered many of the winemaking techniques now considered standard across the industry. Its flagship wine, the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, was established in 1936 and remains one of California's most iconic bottlings. A wine that has graced White House tables and cellar collections for generations.
DAOU Vineyards
Brothers Georges and Daniel Daou grew up in Lebanon, fell in love with wine in France, and built their fortune in California's tech industry before returning to their true passion. They found their home on DAOU Mountain in Paso Robles, where the elevation, maritime influence, and rocky soils create ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. Their flagship Soul of a Lion, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, has become one of the most celebrated wines to emerge from Paso Robles in recent years.
Etude Winery
Etude was founded on a single belief: that great wine is grown, not made. From their estate at Grace Benoist Ranch in the Coast Ranges, Etude lets the vineyard do the talking, focusing on minimal intervention and exceptional grape growing to produce wines of remarkable clarity and precision. While Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the heart of the portfolio, Etude also produces sought-after Cabernet Sauvignons from some of Napa Valley's finest AVAs.
Frank Family Vineyards
What was once the historic Larkmead Winery, the third oldest stone building in Napa built in 1884, is now home to Frank Family Vineyards, founded in 1992 by Rich and Leslie Frank. Spread across more than 380 acres in Napa Valley's top appellations, Frank Family is best known for its Carneros and Lewis Vineyard Chardonnays, its Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignons, and its méthode champenoise sparkling wines. It is a winery that honors history while writing its own.
Castello di Gabbiano
Castello di Gabbiano has roots stretching back to the 11th century, when the original castle was built to defend a key route between Florence and Siena. Today, across 165 hectares in the heart of Chianti Classico country, the estate carries on more than 300 years of winemaking heritage. Sangiovese is the soul of the house, expressing itself across a range of styles from the accessible Chianti DOCG to the refined Chianti Classico Riserva.
Hewitt Vineyard
Few vineyards in Napa Valley command the same quiet reverence as Hewitt. A historic 60-acre estate on the Rutherford Bench, first planted in the late 19th century, Hewitt produces a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon entirely focused on letting the land speak. No blending, no distraction. Just pure expression of one of Napa's most storied sites.
Lyric
From the award-winning winemaking team behind Etude, Lyric brings a devotion to elegance and terroir to the Central Coast. Born in the cool, misty vineyards of Monterey County, Lyric focuses on Pinot Noir that is fresh, silky, and expressive — approachable in price, uncompromising in quality.
Matua
Founded in 1974, Matua was the first winery to produce Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand, putting the country on the global wine map. Brothers Ross and Bill Spence built the brand from a small shed in West Auckland into one of New Zealand's most awarded wineries, sourcing grapes from Marlborough, Hawke's Bay, and Central Otago. Bright, refreshing, and unmistakably New Zealand.
Penfolds
Founded in Adelaide in 1844 by Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, Penfolds is one of Australia's most storied wineries. In 1948, Max Schubert became the company's first Chief Winemaker, creating Penfolds Grange in the 1950s and cementing the brand's place among the world's finest. From the iconic Bin series to rare collector releases, Penfolds spans the full spectrum of Australian winemaking excellence.
St. Huberts The Stag
St. Huberts The Stag is built around bold wines for adventurous people, celebrating journeys had and the ones still to come. Originally established in 1862 as one of the first wineries in Victoria, Australia's Yarra Valley, the brand brought its adventurous spirit to California, now producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and red blends from Paso Robles and the Central Coast.
Stags' Leap Winery
Established in 1872, Stags' Leap Winery is one of Napa Valley's oldest estates. Nestled in the Stags Leap District AVA beneath dramatic volcanic palisades, the property's unique microclimate slows ripening and develops wines of exceptional complexity. Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship, with the estate's 150-foot wine cave built in 1892 adding to a legacy that is equal parts history, legend, and great wine.
Sterling Vineyards
Perched 300 feet above the valley floor in Calistoga, Sterling Vineyards is one of Napa's most distinctive estates. Founded in 1964 and inspired by the white stucco architecture of Mykonos, Sterling is the only winery in the world accessible by aerial gondola. It was also the first to bottle a vintage-dated California Merlot back in 1969. Today the winery runs entirely on renewable electricity while producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc from some of Napa's finest vineyard sites.
Tapestry
From the makers of Napa Valley's iconic Beaulieu Vineyard, Tapestry is a celebration of the unique terroir of Paso Robles, brought to life through the art of the blend. Just as a tapestry weaves together colors and fabrics, these wines artfully combine varietals from across the Central Coast, producing red blends and Sauvignon Blanc that are gracefully surprising and built for any occasion.
