Tasting Notes

Our 2018 Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon is structured, solid, and rich, with layers of depth and complexity. A deep crimson, cranberry red, shimmering color, with vibrant aromas and flavors of intense black cherry, black currant, blackberry, and pomegranate, invite you to sip, savor and indulge. All the fruit is supported by notes of hazelnut, crème brûlée, cinnamon, clove, allspice, and delicate Szechuan peppercorn, from the well-integrated oak character. Multi-layered and dense on the palate, you’ll find ripe, macerated dark berry fruits alongside perfumed violets, finishing with a mouthwatering freshness and a focused persistence. The finish is long, generous, and alluring, with chewy tannins, and just a hint of black licorice and graphite. Incredibly drinkable now but also age worthy, this is a wine that truly exemplifies both the personality of Hewitt Vineyard and the remarkable 2018 vintage. Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted to be cellar-worthy, however, if you can’t wait to enjoy a glass, we recommend decanting to allow the fullest expression to evolve and reveal itself within the glass.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2021

“The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. It captures all the intensity of this site, but with a lighter hand and more acid-driven freshness than in the past, both of which work so well to balance things out. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, spice and licorice all build with time in the glass.”

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, June 2021

“A big, solid red with blackcurrant, blackberry and hazelnut character. It’s structured and tightly wound with dense, creamy tannins that provide form and intensity. A little tight at the end. Give it two or three years to open a little more. Try in 2024.”

      Vintage Notes
The Napa Valley region enjoyed a stunning, near picture-perfect 2018 growing season including good winter rains, mild spring weather and steady temperatures throughout that allowed for even flowering and bud break. These ideal growing conditions were followed by a cool, even, and slow-paced harvest which allowed the winery to vinify wines at a gentle pace. The resulting 2018 Cabernets are of very high quality with plenty of concentrated flavors, color, and excellent acidity.
